Keith and his business partner, Alistair, have decided to take their wives, June and Emma, on a cabin-cruiser holiday up the River Orb to Armageddon Bridge. Keith has to return home to sort out some business issues leaving the boat in the hands of Alistair, who proves to be not quite up to the job.
When Vince a passer-by and his exotic girlfriend Fleur offer to help, Alistair thinks that his problems are over but events take a sinister turn.
One of Ayckbourn's darker plays, considered by some to be an allegory of the political state of England at the time.
