May 2007  The Importance of Being Earnest

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST by Oscar Wilde

Jack loves Gwendolen who thinks his name is really Ernest and Algy can't wait to meet little Cecily who thinks she is already engaged to her guardian's brother, also called Ernest.   Meanwhile Lady Bracknell continues her search for a husband for her daughter and Canon Chasuble is getting ready for a busy afternoon.   But what is the secret that Miss Prism has been hiding all these years?

Our seventieth anniversary season continued with Oscar Wilde's 'trivial comedy for serious people' some fifty odd years after we last put it on and long standing club member Barry Serjent appeared in both productions, playing Merriman in 1951 and Canon Chasuble in our latest offering.

The play was directed by John McGee.
