July 2005 The Memory of Water
THE MEMORY OF WATER, by Shelagh Stephenson
'The Memory of Water' was Shelagh Stephenson's first stage play, for which she won the 2000 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy. The play revolves mainly around three sisters, coming together for the funeral of their mother. They have very little in common except that they all still live with the unhealthy legacies of their childhood with the mother they have come to bury. This play is a delightful mix where tragedy meets comedy with a deep understanding of sisterly and romantic love.
The play was directed by Bryan Hourihane.
